Melodious Presentation of Classical Music and Dance on Guru Pournima
Pune : 12th September, 2026
Students of Deccan Education Society's D.E.S. Secondary School, M.S. Golwalkar Guruji Vidyalaya and N.E.M.S. have been learning classical vocal, harmonium, tabla, Kathak and Bharatanatyam for the last five years.
Following the syllabus of Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya Mandal, these students regularly appear for examinations to develop their art. To give a stage to those who have completed their Praveshika Purna exam, a Sneh Sammelan (Gathering) was organized on the occasion of Guru Pournima on Saturday, Sept 12 at Ganesh Hall, Tilak Road, Pune.
The program began with lamp lighting by MSGGV Pre-primary Principal Aparna Sane, Primary and Secondary Principal Vasanti Bankar and all art teachers. Chief guests Mr. Vivek Mathkari, DES Governing Body Council Member, and Mr. Milind Kamble, Chairman of DES Cultural Committee, graced the occasion.
The event started with Abhanga singing, followed by solo classical vocal, solo and group instrumental performances, and solo and group Kathak and Bharatanatyam presentations. The melodious confluence of tabla, harmonium, vocal and dance showcased the beauty of Indian classical arts.
The special attraction was the pure classical performances by 69 students. Their disciplined, confident and high-quality presentation was highly appreciated by parents. Behind this artistic journey lies the guidance of teachers, consistent practice and support of parents.
On the occasion of Guru Pournima, students felicitated all their teachers with Guru Vandana, a touching moment of gratitude towards the concept of ‘Guru’ in Indian culture.
In his address, Mr. Mathkari and Mr. Kamble encouraged students to continue their practice in classical music and dance and highlighted how art education strengthens personality development.
The program was anchored by Mrs. Ashwini Patwardhan and Mrs. Shraddha Ranjekar, the introduction was given by Mrs. Harshada Karekar and vote of thanks by Mrs. Prajakta Bendre.
The Sammelan, which began with devotional Abhanga, concluded soulfully with ‘Bhairavi’ on the harmonium. The large presence of parents made it a proud moment, as they saw their children perform classical arts with such confidence at a young age.
