Pune, 13 August 2026: The students of Std. 7 of New English Medium School (NEMS), Pune, had a wonderful opportunity to participate in a cultural exchange programme at Sangam (WAGGGS) – World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts on Thursday, 13 August 2026.
The event was organised to promote cultural exchange and understanding among Girl Guides and Girl Scouts from different countries. International participants visiting India were invited to experience the rich and diverse culture of our country through various presentations by Indian schools.
NEMS had the privilege of representing Ganesh Chaturthi, one of Maharashtra’s most vibrant and celebrated festivals. The students presented the festival through an informative presentation, a skit and energetic traditional performances such as Lezim and Barchi. Through their performance, they beautifully depicted the process of welcoming Lord Ganesha, offering prayers and celebrating the festival, followed by the traditional immersion ceremony.
The programme began with engaging activities conducted by the Girl Guides and Girl Scouts. The students were divided into different groups, giving them an opportunity to interact with participants from various countries. They exchanged ideas, experiences and knowledge, making the interaction both educational and enjoyable.
The students’ presentation of Indian culture was appreciated and provided them with a valuable platform to showcase the traditions and festive spirit of Maharashtra. The visit was indeed a memorable and enriching experience, helping the students develop confidence, cultural awareness and a deeper appreciation for diversity and international friendship.
